In March of 2011, Nestor was elected to the City of Bell Council after a very difficult period for the City. He was elected Mayor by his fellow councilmembers in 2014, and then re-elected in 2015. Nestor is an education advocate having served on School Site Councils and elected vice-president of the Los Angeles Unified School District Advisory Committee. As a LAUSD Board Member, Nestor will face aggressively the challenges that impact LAUSD and its students.

As Mayor of Bell, Nestor was one of the first leaders in our country to open a shelter to house Central American Immigrant families and their children.

Valencia Returns Taxes to Bell Residents

Nestor fought to restore integrity to the city council and to deliver good government and transparency back to the City of Bell. He led the effort to return taxes to Bell residents with the help of Senate Pro-Tem Kevin De Leon under AB 900. His passion for advocacy helped Bell residents to appreciate the importance of voting and civic engagement.
